Challenge
Since 1997, the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao has been one of the most influential showcases of contemporary art in Europe. In addition to its permanent collection, it offers workshops, courses, and activities for art lovers, families, and people with disabilities. However, despite its great potential, its website is highly limited, especially on mobile devices, hindering its ability to connect with visitors during their museum experience.
Goals
The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao is one of Europe’s most prominent contemporary art institutions. With a strong commitment to inclusion, the goal of this project was to create an app that would be truly useful and accessible to the diverse range of visitors the museum welcomes. each day, as well as making it easier to build customer loyalty.
Immersion phase
During the desk research phase, we analyzed 20 different apps from museums, amusement parks, art, and culture to carry out a SWOT analysis of the competition. We also interviewed 15 participants, including museum visitors, art enthusiasts, and donors to this and other museums.
Our research revealed that the features users value most are audio guides and maps. However, most museum apps lack accessibility options for people with disabilities, and many users feel these apps offer little added value, leaving them with no reason to keep them once their visit is over.

User Experience
We developed three user personas: Ana Salas, a traveler eager to discover activities in the new cities she visits; Martín García, an art student who regularly explores museums; and Nora, a mother searching for activities to enjoy with her four-year-old son.
For each persona, we designed specific user flows—purchasing tickets, navigating the museum map, and booking a workshop.
We established a voice that is both formal and inspirational, with a tone that remains inclusive, clear, friendly, and approachable. The content structure was crafted to be intuitive and easy to explore, integrating key features such as an interactive map, audio guides, itineraries, and an accessibility section to personalize the experience.
With this solid foundation, we moved from initial sketches to fully detailed wireframes. These wireframes were tested with users to create the first iteration.

User Interface
We chose a color palette that conveys formality while adding a vibrant touch. We also selected icons and typefaces that ensure easy readability. Before moving on to the interface design, we created a style tile and a UI kit. The interface design was then tested, allowing us to make a final iteration before reaching the end result.
